woman will rise because of the strength of the force now in her, but this rise is not progress - if by progress we mean an increase in anything we usually identify with what we call the good, whether happiness, peace, or pleasure. woman is as full of good and evil as man. despite the claims of utopians, her rise is not a betterment of humanity - rather, it is only that her configuration of good and evil is necessary - man’s particular configuration has exhausted itself. woman rises through the feminine’s full inhabitation of her, but it is technology - the feminine’s erotic partner - that facilitates its residence, even as it is the feminine that entitles technology’s world
meanwhile, man needs to maintain the illusion of his subject status rather than the truth of his being an object of the two forces of which he is an intermediary. the longer he maintains this illusion, the more he works to enhance technology and the feminine. he might become a force unto himself again if he broke the illusion and gave himself over to his object status, but he does not have the strength yet - he still has much to absorb that he does not know. man continues to need to believe that he is the source of power rather than a channel through which the larger forces flow - his need to believe is in direct proportion to the absurdity of the belief, an absurdity that continues to grow, propelling him. his belief is the gas he continually fills himself with to keep the machine of his body and mind moving
woman too identifies herself with power, and while the identification is strictly speaking false, it for a time is true - so we, in order to live in our time, accept her identification as truth and identify her with the feminine. but man’s identification is from all measures wrong, for force has deserted him
man is the constructed tool by which he is defeated. yet he could not defeat himself without the impetus of technology and the feminine. they are the forces that drive him to the extremities of outer and inner, circumference and circle, that compel him to build and fall to his knees in darkness, that as they increase in force and visibility make him more a tool and so hasten his demise
neither technology nor the feminine consciously plan man’s disappearance - it is man who plans and falsely believes in the superiority of his methods, his conscious will. technology and the feminine are the greater forces because they do not will, and yet their natures are fulfilled
man yields, but cannot say he yields. he is the slave animal, but the slave who needs to think that he is master - in this contradiction between appearance and reality is his uniqueness. the truth of man cannot be spoken - by man because he is weak, by woman because she lacks the nature to speak the truth of man, by technology because it has no tongue
as the circumference of reality expands through technology’s virile growth, two corollary things happen - reality’s outer reaches get further from the core of existence, resulting in an increase of the necessary spiritual distance to travel to erotic unity - and the overall area of reality’s circle - stuffed with the particularities of life and death (bodies, ideas, things) - contains more mass to be negotiated - with this increasing distance and mass, man can neither traverse the distance alone - he does not even know the way any more - nor absorb the immense number of particularities between reality’s circumference and centre
man’s home is simultaneously the circumference and the centre of the circle, but nowhere in between. he is wholly dependent on the structures that connect reality’s outer and inner limits - structures once mirrored within - but now that their image is without, he becomes nothing, as he in himself is reduced to the circle’s circumference and core. he becomes nothing because reality’s circumference is boundaryless and thus infinite, and its centre is bottomless and thus also infinite. without technology and the feminine, man is pulled in two opposite directions - both which have no end - and so is ripped in half
but technology and the feminine prevent man’s ripping and consequently bind him and the world. through this binding, both technology and the feminine become sacred. this is why the past myths have had to die - they presented man sufficient - perhaps with his god sufficient, but still a whole. the past myths have died, but myth is hardly dead - myth follows the sacred as surely as death life. the new myths will hardly resemble the old, however - they will adapt themselves to the demands of the new sacred. to glimpse a foreshadowing of the new myths, don’t examine the strictures of the old ones - man and his gods - but rather examine technology and the feminine, not in isolation, but in erotic tension with each other
the new myths are being formed as we live, from the forge of the dark coupling of technology and the feminine. we live according to the shape of their desire
